The Season has Begun!

Senior Zach Dielmann training at the indoor pool.
Our 2011-2012 season is now officially off and running. Love that! Both teams are optimistic and we intend to have a fun, successful season. That will require plenty of dedication and a lot of hard work. If positive attitudes prevail and we stay healthy, we'll have a great year!

Part of the pool is under an overhang that recesses into a
cave. Everyone climbed down/dove off the boulders to
take a dip in the cool waters.
This past Saturday, the team undertook a 90 minute journey to Hamilton Pool, a small Texas state park northwest of Austin. Known for its outdoorsy ambiance, its hiking trails, and a springfed pool complete with waterfall, Hamilton Pool proved to be a pleasant alternative to our traditional tubing trip along the Guadalupe River (near Gruene, TX). Suprisingly, the team experienced something we haven't seen in South Central Texas this summer - RAIN! A heavy shower cooled things off and probably hastened the teams return to San Antonio. All in all, it was time well spent - team fellowship is a great thing!

This week we are alternating 2 indoor short course days and an outdoor long course day. Saturday morning we'll go a long swim outdoors - the goal being to create a good mindset for the ASA Collegiate 5K Open Water event at Lake Travis, to be held on October 1st. Race director Dr. Keith Bell tells us that the race course is just fine despite the drought, so we're looking forward to a good competition. We are hopeful that Dr. Bell will be adding a 2K race to the program next fall (2012)--something for the sprinters!

Other than that, it's cool to note that Trinity's football, men's soccer, and women's soccer are all off to a good start this fall. Cross country is looking pretty good too. Add to all that the fact that diver Hayley Emerick (Class of 2011) is one of nine finalists for the NCAA Woman of the Year Award and it's clear that September has been a good month for TU athletics. I think it's the first time any woman from either Trnity or our conference (the SCAC) has been so honored. We are very proud of Hayley and grateful that diving coach Stan Randall so successfully helped her realize her potential here at Trinity.

We love our kick sets!

Sophomore Gabriella Caglieris.

Senior Lynne Bettinger.

FY Kelly Holton

Playing a little water polo at Hamilton Pool.
FY Rachel Hure and SO Marisa Olmo enjoy sitting on a
rock that happens to be under a natural waterfall.

FYs Lydia, Sarah and Christine.
Sophomore Arthur Daigh trying to climb back up. No easy
feat! Those rocks are covered in algae.

Swimmers enjoy the view overlooking the pool.

If you can't tell...it's raining! Some enjoyed the experience
of swimming in the rain and others gathered under the cave.
Even when it's not raining water streams off that cliff edge
in a natural waterfall.
