Rose Hulman Diving Invitational

Trinity's diving team traveled to Terra Haute, Indiana on the weekend of December 3 - 4 to compete with six colleges and universities in an invitational diving meet at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. They left sunny San Antonio Friday morning and were treated to 3 inches of snow in the shilly northern plain of Indiana. They did not, however, get cold feet - the team competed well and represented Trinity in fine fashion with some "hot" diving.

The Lady Tigers opened Friday's 3 - meter session with a 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 6 - 7 - 9 finish, with defending NCAA 3 - meter champion Hayley Emericak leading the way 510.5 points. Hot on her trail were Katie Sheldon (436.6) and Ruth Hahn (427.85).
All three divers exceeded the NCAA entry consideration point standard. Madison Kahler had a great night, and was chased closely throughout the session by Krsitin Nordstrom, Gabi Caglieris, and Rebecca Parrish.

The next day, the Tigers continued to dominate the field. Hayley, Katie, and Ruth again went 1 - 2 - 3 by scoring 451.6, 409.75, and 405.85 points respectively. Gabi finished 5th with 334.75 points, while Kristin just edged out Madison and Rebecca to take the 9 - 10 - 11 spots. Look for all three of them to move up the totem pole in February when they attend the SCAC Championships. Ten days of great training in Puerto Rico will sharpen the entire team's skills, and the addition of Amy Oliver and Lynn Bettinger will make the Tiger diving team even more formidable when they travel to Shenandoah, Texas for their 2010 Conference meet.

The Tiger men had a good weekend, as well, with Andrew Snead and Jack Foreman representing TU with a good bit of flair. Tyler Clingerman of Lincoln College, the NAIA National Champion, won both boards with more than 100 points to spare and definitely showed the men's field how it's done. Andrew finished 5th on 1 - meter with 342.1 points and duplicated that finish during Saturday's 3 - meter competition when he hit 347.2 points. Meanwhile, Jack hit 300.6 points in the 1 - meter event and then followed that by tallying 329.25 points on the 3 - meter board. Both are on track for a solid conference championship meet, where they will be joined by junior Kevin Martin (who was studying abroad in Australia this fun).

Next stop, Puerto Rico - lots of sun and no snowball fights there!
